National Bereavement Care Pathway Northern Ireland - Listening events in January

Text says National Bereavement Care Pathway (NBCP) the NBCP logo. We would like to hear first-hand from local women and men who have experienced pregnancy of baby loss. Help us shape the new pathways for Northern Ireland. See links to listening evening in January 2025

The NBCP (National Bereavement Care Pathway) is funded by the Public Health Agency (PHA) and is led by Sands. The vision of the project is to achieve equitable care for every bereaved parent and every family, every time there is a pregnancy loss, or the death of a baby

The project will create a set of five bereavement care pathways:

Miscarriage including molar and ectopic pregnancy, termination of pregnancy for foetal anomaly (TOPFA), stillbirth, neonatal death, and sudden unexpected death in infancy (SUDI) with the parent voice at the forefront of each.

Throughout January 2025, the team will be hosting a series of listening events is to hear the lived experiences of local women and men who have experienced pregnancy loss or the death of a baby (up to 24months) first-hand.

We would like to hear specifically about your experience of bereavement care and support, whether excellent, good, average or otherwise:

  • in hospital
  • following discharge home
  • throughout in the next pregnancy (if applicable)

This is your opportunity to share your valued experience with us and help us to improve the care received by future bereaved families.

Present at the event will be Sands volunteers (some of whom you may know) alongside other volunteers from various bereavement charities who will be there ready to chat with you.

Whilst this is not a support group, we recognise that telling your bereavement story may be triggering therefore there will be a quiet space available at each event.

Members of the local HSC Bereavement team and/or chaplaincy team will be available to sit and have a conversation with you and provide you with information as to where you can access further support before leaving the event.

*Please note parents who sign up will be sent an information and consent form prior to attending the event.

Contact melissa.crockett@sands.org.uk if:

  • you would like to participate but feel this setting is not for you
