Healthy Ageing Calendar Gift to 140,000 older people
The Public Health Agency (PHA), together with charity Age NI and the Northern Ireland Frailty Network, have launched a major public information initiative targeted at boosting the health and wellbeing of older people in 2022.
140,000 householders aged 65-74 and individuals aged 75+ are being gifted a 2022 wellbeing calendar packed with expert advice, information and resources aimed at supporting older people to keep well.
Aidan Dawson, Chief Executive of the PHA said: “The calendar is filled with information, from healthy eating guides to home-based exercises, and from winter wellbeing to online safety tips. It also includes important contact information such as the falls services in all of the Health Trusts and information on pharmacy medication and health checks.
“Along with the Northern Ireland Frailty Network, we want to reassure older people that there is plenty of information and support available and this calendar is a great starting point. It’s never too early or too late to invest in our health.
“Growing older shouldn’t be a barrier to leading a happy and fulfilled later life. There are lots of ways to prevent frailty and there are plenty of things we can do to turn it around. We hope older people will hold on to this calendar and use it throughout the year as their personal wellbeing guide.”
Along with the PHA and Age NI, the calendar has been generously supported by Allstate, Keysafe, PPP Taking Care Personal Alarms and Power NI.
Linda Robinson, Chief Executive of Age NI said: “The experience of the past couple of years has been very isolating for many older people, so it’s more important than ever to look after our health, stay active and strong, keep up health checks and remain connected to others. We are very grateful to the PHA and other partners who have supported this.
“Older people tell us that the things that matter most in later life are staying physically and mentally well and feeling safe, whether that’s online or in their own home. Life doesn’t come with a manual and it can be hard to know where to turn for information and advice that’s relevant to older people. We worked with partners and a team of experts, including older people, to bring this all together in one place.
“The calendar also provides useful contact numbers for age sector networks which help older people stay active and connected in local communities across Northern Ireland.”
The 2022 calendar is being delivered via direct mail to householders aged 65-74 and through independent pharmacies to over 75’s receiving prescription medicines and Health Trusts. If you or a loved one aged 65+ would like to request a copy from Age NI, email marketing@ageni.org
